So, these were my first ideas/concepts I was thinking about when it comes to RFID/NFC and playfulness.

RFIDed_Robot?

rfid_robots_.jpg

This is a toy (maybe a robot) which is RFIDed. It can communicate with other toys and has a certain identity. Thus you can “feed” it with personality, like it´s favorite colour or food(only micheline_oil..), it´s age and to whom it belongs. When it meets other RFIDed toys and they “touch” each other, they will instantly know weather they like or dislike each other. Maybe the toy´s personality is like yours and thus you know if the you got something in common with the other toys owner.

Another thought about this robot is, that you can open it, or even tear it apart in order to see how it works, what makes it tick. As a child you´re always very eager to know what´s behind the fassade and here you got a toy which is quite sophisticated and still you can get to know, to see and learn about the RFID technology. The downside of this concept is of course that the “magic” is lost. The invisible way of toys communicating and reacting would be without a doubt quite fascinating!

Find_the_bubbles!

bubble_finder.jpg

This one is closely linked to the “Landscape of radio” design_brief. As it is said in this brief the physical world is filling up with bubbles of radio waves, from massive GSM, 3G and wifi networks to tiny RFID chips pinging out their ID numbers. Each of these invisible bubbles offers a set of funcions or serviece, from talking on the phone to transferring data or granting access or paying for a ticket.

So what about trying to make this bubble visible, with a device that detects and allocates the bubbles to the certain available or not available service. But this device would not only detect this bubbles it would also link to other devices and thus create a whole playing field of invisible bubbles. Games could be like find the biggest WIFI_bubble in your environment or find a certain bubble. There could also be something like a treasure hunt. “The way of the bubble”. One group is finding bubbles in advance and the other group has to follow them trying to find exactly the same bubbles and thus follow the path of the first group. With this device the invisible world of radiowaves could become a little bit more visible, even tangible and children as well as adults could learn a great deal..

RFIDed_picturebook

rfided_bilderbuch1.jpg

A picturebook with typical content, exept this time it can talk and make noises. Thus a drawn Lion can roar like a real one and at the happy ending a nice tune can be played. You only need an RFID_reader with a small database and some loudspeaker. ;-)

And maybe you can also tag comicbooks: tattttatttta! bam! slam! kaaapooow! I always wanted to hear this sound in the real universe..
