This part is all about the creativity_module we had for almost three weeks. It was kicked off with a lecture by(damn, forgot his name…anybody can help me on that one?) , who´s kinda creativity_guru. He explained why and when we need creativity_methods and rushed through some of the hundreds available methods. He started off with this more or less basic modell:
And went on with the following concepts:
BRAINSTORMING METHODS:
CLAYSTORMING _ use a piece of clay_everybody forms a shape while passing it to one other_if sth. nice surfaces, put it aside and take a new piece of clay
BODYSTORMING _ use your body to express and get new input_like figure dancin
TWIST METHODS
USE ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE _ imagine beeing a binman, or a pilot..
CHANGE CONDITIONS _ negative to positive, hot, warm..
EXAGERATE _ change proprtions, budget..
WHAT IF? _ imagine beeing on other worlds with less gravity, oxygen, no mountains..
COUPLING + ANALOGY METHODS
ASSOCIATIONS _ chair_sitting_weight
QUALITY COUPLING _ use a product with some quality, but total other usage_material
MOODBOARD _ use a board with lots of pictures showing certain feelings_moods_objects_themes.. look at it closely;-)
VISUAL + MATERIAL BASED
BLINDDRAWING
PATTERN _ draw a lot of patterns and then try to find lines by combining certain parts of that patterns (helps to find shapes)
TINKERING _ put a lot of materials on the table..
INTUITIVE APPROACH
SCRAPBOOKS _ book were you collect the best drawings, best pictures, articles, interesting materials, words
BUGLIST _ make a list of things that bother you every day
PLEASURELIST _ just the opposite

After this introduction we had the guys from the creativity_lab Sti:g o’Stein at our class. They explained to us their creativity_modell, which they use in workshops with companys. They point out, that there´s a kind of creativity circle. Something like this:
To keep this circle running you can use a lot of methods(some of them mentioned above). The st:g of stein method goes like follows and should be used in groups containing about 5 pers.:
There are two phases, the creating phase in which everything is possible and in which you should get an as broad as possible approach/idea of the task. In this phase the motto is YES AND.. (in opposite of yes, I like the idea, but..). You can use lots of post its to write/sketch down your ideas and present it to the group. Important in this phase is to be as clear as possible with your ideas, so anybody in your group can understand it. You can work in pairs, single or take an inspiration walk outside(very recommended by me_it works perfectly) to get new ideas.
The second phase is all about narrowing it down to some final ideas. You can use grouping or elimination or discussing as means to get rid of too many ideas.
Important with this method is to be as precise as possible with the question/task/brief at the beginning. “What exactly are we after?” Another important thing is that someone should be the leader of the group in order to keep track of the time, ideas, solve conflicts and of course to keep the motivation high, because without motivation the whole circle/flow of ideas(see above) is intermitted.

In order to use this method with my project I hooked up with my classmates Andre and Øyvind, who choose the same brief as me(playfull RFID) and had kinda the same basic Ideas about where this project should lead to. For the workshop we got reinforced by Natale and Eric from the Design as Service Class.
We took the motivation part of our workshop very seriously and so we set the whole thing up with wigs, babybottles(with wine), plastiline, Wii and small skateboards;-) interested in how that looks and with what kind of ideas we came up with? Check our presentation and Andres pics:
